Yesterday ACQ Magazine reported that Aeon was bidding for Carrefour stores in Asia and today the Guardian has revealed Tesco is also in the running as well.
The stores, in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, are thought to fetch around US$1bn and Carrefour may decide to sell them separately if they will get more money for them.
Tesco is currently the market leader for supermarkets in both Thailand and Malaysia and more than a third of its total number of supermarkets is in Asia.
The deadline for the first round of bids for the chain of Asian stores has now closed and there are thought to be 10 groups that are in the running for the takeover.
